Berlin, A Sexy Fashion Metropolis

By Fashion Columnist Palaschka Parchomenko Curvello

Twice a year, in January and July, Berlin becomes a fashion metropolis attracting people from all over the world and this year from July 7th – 11th Berlin Fashion Week featured fashion shows, trade fairs and lots of parties. This big brands such as Berlin’s own, fashion designer, Michael Michalsky, was featured.  There were also newcomers like Frida Weyer, who presented her collection of modern cocktail and evening dresses in muted tones at the historic Banking Hall of the Humboldt Carre at Gendaremenmarkt, as part of the Mercdes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Spring / Summer 2011.

The overwhelming majority of the brands represented at Berlin Fashion Week were not local labels, since they are unable to afford the fees to participate in the events. There are however, between 600 – 800 fashion designers who live and work in Berlin and many of them are designing their collections in their own homes where the rent is more affordable. Berlin presents up and coming designers with a good start on their careers, as rent and living costs compared to other major cities such as New York City, London and Paris is relatively inexpensive and yet you still enjoy the flair of a creative and sexy fashion metropolis.

Making You The Most Beautiful Bride

By Belfast Fashion Columnist Paula Fraser

Organizing your wedding day is a mammoth task, with many different elements making up one special day and one very important element is your make up as you will be looking at your wedding photos for years to come.  Finding the right make up artist to help you with your makeup on the day need not be daunting, so here are some tips to help you with your search, and advice on working out the right make up look for you.

So you have set the date, booked the venue, found your dream dress…time to think about how you would like your hair and make up to look on the day.  For bridal make up it is important that you still look and feel like yourself, but there are certain techniques and products which professionals use so that you get that flawless airbrushed finish for your photographs.

If you do not usually wear red lipstick or purple on your eyes, your wedding day is not the time to start!  Keeping it neutral, fresh and radiant is the best way to achieve a timeless and classic look.  If you prefer your makeup a little glamorous, then go for it, but remember less is more.  A professional should know how to accentuate your best features, it should be your sparkling big blue eyes your guests see, not the colour of eyeshadow or blush that you are wearing.

Fashion 2010

By Fashion Columnist Jessica Harmon

Twice each year, the entire fashion industry becomes completely frantic in anticipation of Fashion Week and recently designers presented their creations for Fall 2010.  With so many great designers reaching into the depths of their imagination, this fall season will most assuredly be an exciting one, as many of the collections have a definite element of fantasy, steering clear of the average fall piece.

Alexander McQueen, who sadly took his own life earlier this year, still managed to make one last appearance at Fashion Week and his amazing collection has a very strong medieval influence, featuring daring pieces that probably will not be seen on your average executive anytime soon.  Using amazing prints of rich colors, silhouettes are reminiscent of the Dark Ages with a modern touch.  One incredible dress was clearly meant for a queen, with its luxurious fabrics and structured details.  The long robe-like piece in cream is embellished quite intricately with gold and brown embroidery and features voluminous and exaggerated sleeves and it also has square hips.  This piece is held together with a matching, embroidered belt from which gathered silk chiffon flows elegantly. The cream colored sheer potion is gathered into a crewneck and continues to fall into the full length dress. Each of the pieces in the collection features armor-like details including head pieces which resemble helmets. Mr. McQueen’s final designs certainly do not disappoint.

Designer Betsey Johnson also made time for make believe with her recent collection, which is conjures up images of the Wild West on acid. Some

Make Sure Your Bootie is in Style

By Tampa Bay Fashion Columnist Jessica Harmon

When the word “fashion” is mentioned, many tend to think only of garments; a sexy dress or an edgy pair of skinny pants.  The truth is that none of these pieces can even be considered fashion until they have been properly accessorized.  With summer well on its way out the door, we should all be thinking about some fabulous fall accessories and fall 2010 is going to have some great ones.

The always chic stiletto bootie has been appearing for a few seasons now, but as always, fashion is all about new twists in color, texture and styling.  For a classic style with a bit of frill, Sergio Rossi has a leather fringe bootie in beautiful chestnut with feminine fringe detail appearing in unique tiers down the front of the boot.  For a much bolder statement, a lipstick red bootie courtesy of Givenchy features unique, pebble-like texture and combination of lacing and button closures. In a slightly more affordable price range, L.A.M.B. has a black suede bootie with unique ruching at the upper and draping at the top line.  Whatever your color preference or price range, be absolutely certain that you do not miss out on this trend for fall.
