The Best Things In Life Are Worth Waiting For
You know China Forbes as the lady who fronts the multilingual band Pink Martini with her awe-inspiring vocals, but on February 26th, Forbes released her second solo album 78, a collection of personal and evocative songs. It has been thirteen years since she released her debut solo effort, Love Handle. The CD 78 has been in the works for several years, as Forbes carefully and masterfully applied her brushstrokes to the canvass of this album.
Speaking to me from her home in Portland Oregon, Forbes says, “I had been working on a lot of these songs (for some time), I recorded them, and I really needed to put out the album. It was a difficult thing to do, because I am consumed by Pink Martini and it is my main thing. I just took a leap and put it (78) out in the best way that I could, with only one small tour to promote it, because that is all that I have time for.”
Adrienne Pierce Paints On The Canvass Of Life
The mere suggestion that someone is living on, or near a fault line, usually conjures up images of earthquakes, chaos and uncertainty, and while it is true that some of Adrienne Pierce’s songs from her CD Faultline may evoke those same images, for the most part this is a collection of songs that says, ‘Hey while everything may seem a bit crazy at the moment, everything is going to work out just fine.’
The immensely talented Los Angeles based recording artist’s name may not be as familiar to you as the sound of her music. Prior to signing a recording contract with Nettwerk Records, the singer/songwriter, had three of her songs, “Fools Gold,” “Lost & Found,” (co-written with Tim Bright), and “One Perfect Day,” placed with television programs such as Gray’s Anatomy and Veronica Mars. More recently, her tune “Falling Asleep,” found its way onto the prime time show The L Word.
Good Golly Miss Molly
It was Little Richard who made the song "Good Golly Miss Molly," a rock and roll hit in 1956, but today it is alternative pop singer and acoustic guitar player Molly Jenson who is the hit. Recently the voters for the
San Diego Music Awards honoured the young singer/songwriter by naming her the best Acoustic musician for 2007. Her notoriety has in part been fuelled by her current album Maybe Tomorrow.
“I was nominated for Best Pop Album in 2006, which was surprising to me, because I don’t really know what I am, but I didn’t think that I would fit into the Pop category. That was the year that none of my friends won. It was kind of, like misery enjoys company."

Nikkole’s current single “Breathe,” from her CD A Girl Like Me is receiving airplay in most regions across America. Radio stations such as the Clear Channel network and regional markets liked what they heard from the singer when her album Appearances debuted in 2001, and now are hooked on the energy infused vibes. What do you get when you take fabulous R&B / Soul rhythms, sprinkle in some pop vocals, and apply a liberal does of business savvy, and just for good measure mix in the tiniest amount of Japanese? Give up yet? You get Nikkole, a Los Angeles native who just happens to be one of today’s most musically and commercially successful independent artists. By the way, she is not Japanese, but more about that later.
